Free Art Masterpiece Coloring Pages

Studying art can be educational and fun. These free art masterpiece coloring pages will allow children to become familiar with the pieces of art work, as well as create their own masterpieces with crayons or paints. Children will enjoy learning about the artist and then be able to experience the art first hand through their own creativity.

Included with most of the free art masterpiece coloring pages is a short bio of the artist to help your child understand who the artist was and the history of his artwork.

Three Musicians by Pablo Picasso | This 1921 Masterpiece was produced both as an oil painting and a collage. It is a picture of three musicians in the style of Synthetic Cubism and gives the apperance of cut paper. The figure in the middle is a Harlequin playing a guitar, with two musicians on either side of him. There is also a dog under the musicians with his ears clearly seen.

Women with a Hat by Henri Matisse | This is a 1905 oil on canvas and is expressive, without regard for natural colors of the subject. Matisse used bold primary colors. The piece of art brought sudden fame to Matisse when it was purchased by American writer and modern art collector Gertrude Stein.

A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat | This 1884 masterpiece was the first “Neoimpressionism”. This was Seurat’s definitive achievment although he did paint other canvases. In the painting are many characters space on a long island in Seine honest beyond Paris city limits.

Compostion with Red, Blue, and Yellow by Piet Mondrian | This was painted in 1930 as an oil on canvas. This show’s Mondrian’s focus on simplicity using black lines and balanced blocks of color. This is considered a “Neoplasticism” style, based on pure colors and straight lines and his exercise of primary colors.

Red Nose by Alexander Calder | This was painted in 1969 and is called a gouache. Calder, although most well known for his mobiles also created many lithographs and gouaches, and also made designs for rugs and tapestries. His many large outdoor sculptures can be seen in public places throughout the world.
